Dr. Om Prakash Singh is our Deputy Director. He is an academician, educator, and researcher with profound experience spanning over 41 years.

About Dr. Om Prakash Singh

He was the Head of the Department of Environmental Studies at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), a Central University in Shillong, Meghalaya from 2004-2016. He held the same honour at Arunachal University of Studies from 1991-2001. He was instrumental in the preparation of the State of Environment Report of Mizoram in 2016 for the MoEFCC. Dr. Om Prakash Singh, inter alia, specialises in the areas of Assessment of Environmental Impacts of Coal Mining, Restoration of Mining Degraded Ecosystems, Natural Resource Accounting, and Biodiversity Conservation.

He has close to 100 publications to his name. One of his most prominent achievements is the acknowledgment of some of his research work and publications by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Hon’ble Supreme Court in New Delhi based on which the NGT in April 2014 had banned the indiscriminate and hazardous rat-hole coal mining in Meghalaya.

He was awarded a Ph.D. degree for his research work in Zoology by the Banaras Hindu University in 1982. Beyond Novomine, he is involved in the revision of the Meghalaya State Action Plan on Climate Change for the Govt. of Meghalaya as a Core Group Member since 2020.
